Harris County, TX — December 8, 2024, Sammie Byrd was killed following a car accident that occurred at around 12:55 A.M. on Eastex Freeway.
An investigation is underway into a car accident that left one person dead during the early morning hours of December 8th. According to reports from officials, Sammie Byrd was attempting to cross Eastex Freeway on foot when they were struck by a Chevy Tahoe driving in the southbound lanes.
When first responders arrived on the scene they found that Byrd had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. At this time there has been no further information released detailing the events leading up to the collision, as well as if any charges or citations will be filed.

Pedestrian accidents are sometimes more complex than people realize. A lot of folks just assume everything is about who had the right-of-way. In reality, there could be extenuating circumstances that need more thorough investigations. Road conditions, lighting, signage, intersection design, alcohol, medical conditions—likely or not, it’s important a victim’s loved ones know they’re getting the whole story. Whether that’s happening here or not remains to be seen.
