El Paso, TX — April 8, 2023, Ruben Fernandez was injured due to an alleged intoxicated driver accident at around 8:04 p.m. along Yarbrough Drive.
Preliminary information from investigations by authorities indicates that the crash happened in the area of the Yarbrough Drive and Carolina Drive intersection.
Authorities said that 42-year-old Ruben Fernandez was along the side of northbound Yarbrough while waiting to cross the intersection on foot. It appears that a Chevy Astro was involved in an initial collision, then allegedly attempted to flee the scene. In doing so, the Chevy turned around, but it hopped the curb and struck Fernandez. The vehicle carried Fernandez onto the median before continuing onto southbound lanes and crashing with a firetruck.
As a result of the collision, Fernandez reportedly had incapacitating injuries. Current information also lists the driver of the Chevy as having incapacitating injuries. Authorities at this time allege that the driver of the Chevy had been drinking, and their statements suggest there are pending charges for Intoxication Assault with Serious Bodily Injury.
