Smith County, TX — August 4, 2024, Rose Maxey and three others were injured while one person was killed in a car accident at 4:45 p.m. along S.H. 155.
According to authorities, 74-year-old Rose Maxey, a 76-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were traveling in a southbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on S.H. 155 in the vicinity northeast of I.H. 20 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Jeep Grand Cherokee occupied by a 33-year-old woman attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, entering the southbound lane of the highway at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the pickup and the Jeep. The pickup was then struck by a southbound Mazda occupied by a 33-year-old woman which had been traveling in the lane behind it.
The woman from the Jeep suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. Meanwhile, Maxey sustained serious injuries and the other three people involved were moderately injured. They were each transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
