It’s unclear if charges are being filed, but that may be just a matter of time if the accusations here are true. Even if charges were filed, though, that likely wouldn’t be the end of the story. When it comes to commercial vehicle accidents, knowing what mistake led to the crash is a small part of the larger picture. It’s also important to understand why the mistake happened. Let me explain what that means.

A lot of the time, a truck accident involving a reckless truck driver turns out to be the result of a company allowing or actively encouraging negligent behavior. For example, a lot of companies out there expect drivers to meet unreasonable deadlines. This means drivers have to speed, roll through stops, rush through lights, skip mandatory rest breaks, avoid routine maintenance, and otherwise cut all possible corners to meet those deadlines. Inevitably, that sort of environment is going to get people killed.

When behavior like that leads to an accident, would it be okay to just put all of the blame on whoever was behind the wheel and call it a day? Well, I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases. I can’t recall a single family I’ve worked with who would have been satisfied with that. People want to know there’s going to be accountability after a crash like this. That’s why it’s important to make sure investigations are considering all contributing factors so no one is wrongfully let off the hook.
