Pharr, TX — November 18, 2023, Roel Isidro Solis was killed and three were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident around midnight on Nolana Loop.

Authorities said in recent statements that there are pending charges for intoxication manslaughter in relation to the fatal crash. Authorities say it occurred along W. Nolana Loop just off I-69C.

According to current reports, 22-year-old Roel Solis was a passenger in a Chevy Malibu that was being driven along Nolana Loop when it collided with a Ford Expedition. Leading up to this, authorities say another passenger in the Chevy told police the Chevy driver had been driving recklessly in an apartment complex parking lot before going onto the roadway.

Right now, authorities allege that the driver of the vehicle Solis was in was under the influence of alcohol. They charged that person for intoxication manslaughter. It’s unclear if additional charges are being considered.

With authorities saying at least one of the passengers involved here was cooperative in telling authorities what happened, that’s hopefully a sign they were able to get more information about what led to the accident. How much did the driver have to drink? Where did they get the alcohol? Were they over-served by a local establishment? Have they shown signs of reckless driving in the past?

Considering someone lost their life here, authorities should have a long list of questions they need answered, so I can only hope the department handling this knows those questions to ensure nothing important goes unaddressed.
