Palmyra, ME — May 4, 2023, Robert Sylvia was fatally injured following a tractor-trailer accident at around 11:30 a.m. along Ell Hill Road.
Preliminary details about the crash said that it took place west of Palmyra on Ell Hill Road, which runs north and south between U.S. Route 2 and I-95 in Pittsfield.

According to initial statements from the Maine Department of Transportation, the accident involved 67-year-old Robert Sylvia who was in a vehicle traveling southbound along Ell Hill. For reasons which are not yet confirmed, Sylvia’s vehicle crossed paths with an oncoming tractor-trailer. The two vehicles then collided head-on with one another.
Due to the severity of the collision, Sylvia sustained injuries which proved fatal. There was apparently a juvenile passenger in Sylvia’s vehicle. The Juvenile was taken to a hospital with injuries described in reports to be non-life-threatening. It appears no one else was hurt.
The tractor-trailer was apparently owned by the Maine Department of Transportation. Their statements and additional details from authorities are still under investigation. The cause of the crash remains unclear.
