One of my immediate concerns with any motorcycle accident is simply whether or not investigators gave the crash the same attention they’d give any other typical car accident. Unfortunately, a lot of people are biased against motorcyclists, and this can lead them to take short cuts, cut corners, overlook certain possible factors, or otherwise conduct investigations which simply don’t give the victim any kind of benefit of the doubt.
To be clear, the evidence should have the final say on what did or didn’t cause a crash. But if an investigating officer, for example, is already inclined to believe all motorcyclists are reckless, they could easily overlook something important like a mechanical defect or a road hazard that they otherwise would have paid attention to. It’s possible authorities here were able to put aside any such biases and get this crash the attention it deserved. But if it turned out there were aspects of this crash not being taken seriously, it would be far from the first time.
