Something I address a lot on this blog is folks jumping to conclusions, and rarely is that more of a problem than with single-vehicle accidents. Why is that?

Generally speaking, common factors in single car crashes are things like speeding, fatigue, alcohol, and distraction. But there are all kinds of other possible factors to consider which victims don’t necessarily have control over. Tire blowouts, mechanical defects, road hazards, other drivers who fled the scene, medical emergencies—common or not, if investigators don’t consider these possibilities, they may not be missing something crucial.

Considering how few details are available right now, I doubt anything we’re seeing in the public is telling the whole story. Until those facts are clear, I’ll say as I always do that people should avoiding jumping to conclusions.
