UPDATE (June 9, 2023): Details from Harris County officials identified the two people killed in the accident as Ricardo Buentello and Veronica Buentello. Right now, additional details regarding possible charges against the SUV driver are unavailable.

Houston, TX — June 7, 2023, two people were killed and a child was hurt after a possible drunk driving accident at 6:00 p.m. along Waxahachie Street.

Authorities with the Houston Police Department say that the incident took place at the intersection of Waxahachie Street and Boyles Street, which is off the northwest corner of Lathrop Street and the East Freeway.

Statements from officials say that a car was traveling along northbound Boyles Street at the time and was crossing Waxahachie. While doing so, a white SUV that was eastbound on Waxahachie reportedly lost control, hit a pole, went through the stop sign, and slammed into the car.

As a result of the collision, a man and a woman in the car sustained fatal injuries. A child in that vehicle was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. It’s unclear if anyone else was injured.

Right now, authorities say they suspect the SUV driver was drunk at the time of the crash. Charges have yet to be confirmed as investigations are ongoing.
