Chambers County, TX — February 5, 2024, Rene Mentillo was killed and Kelly Mentillo was injured in a hit-and-run car accident along S.H. 61.
According to authorities, spouses Rene Mentillo and Kelly Mentillo were on foot walking along State Highway 61 in the vicinity of Barrow White Road when the incident occurred.
Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the two women were struck by a passing vehicle. The person(s) in the vehicle allegedly failed to stop and offer aid of any sort to the couple. Reports state that evidence suggests the suspect vehicle may have been either a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra and would likely be missing a side-view mirror from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Rene Mentillo incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was declared deceased at the scene. Kelly sustained suspected critical injuries and was flown to an area hospital in order to receive immediate treatment.
