When it comes to motorcycle accidents, it can surprise people when the “complete” investigations eventually come out, and they barely shed any more light on the situation than initial investigations. The unfortunate reality is a lot of people just assume the worst of motorcyclists, so they don’t give these accidents much attention. That’s when things start to slip through the cracks.
There are all kinds of possible reasons this kind of crash can happen for reasons a rider may not entirely be in control of. Mechanical issues, tire blowouts, medical conditions, other reckless drivers, road hazards, poor signage or lighting, drivers illegally over-served by a bar, etc. I’m not saying investigators should ignore things like speeding or distracted driving, which are certainly common factors. But it’s best to let the evidence speak for itself, and it sometimes takes independent accident reconstructionists to make sure that evidence is actually being considered.
