Accident Report
May 14, 2026, Rashaad Coleman lost his life due to a motorcycle accident at approximately 3:00 a.m. along Calder Avenue.
According to authorities, 42-year-old Rashaad Coleman was traveling on an eastbound Suzuki motorcycle on Calder Avenue in the vicinity west of the Belvedere Avenue intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Suzuki purportedly failed to appropriately control its speed. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a tree.
Coleman reportedly sustained critical injuries over the course of the accident. He was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, he was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of his injuries, having there been declared deceased. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people, when they hear about single-vehicle motorcycle accidents, are quick to cast blame on the rider and just move on. I’m not about to jump to conclusions like that, though. Why? Because, over the three decades in which I have been in this line of business, I have come to believe that motorcyclists get a bad rap. I have seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence that went against the grain of stereotype ended up being unearthed through thorough investigation. Sometimes things don’t turn out to have been how they initially appeared on the surface.
To be clear, I’m not insinuating that I have more information about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation does. As far as I am aware, driver error remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I just want to point out that, hypothetically, the accident could have been caused by something gone wrong with the motorcycle itself. Motorcycles, while smaller than passenger vehicles, are still complex machines. What if the Suzuki’s failure to slow was a result of brake failure, for example? Or maybe it had been dealing with throttle issues? I’m aware that these things are not very likely, but neither are they outside of the realm of possibility.
An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done. After all, the loved ones left behind by the victim deserve a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how it happened, but why. That kind of clarity—real answers backed by solid evidence—just can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
