Details suggest that a 91-year-old man was a passenger in a Nissan Rogue going westbound. Authorities say that a vehicle going the same direction crashed into the Nissan, and two other vehicles crashed as well. Due to the collision, the passenger in the Nissan Rogue had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities allege that the driver of the vehicle that hit the Nissan had been drinking, however it’s unclear if they considered charges.

Any mention of alcohol raises red flags no matter what time of day a crash happens. I’ve handled hundreds of alcohol-related accidents. They happen at just about any time, and there are plenty of alcohol providers open in the middle of the afternoon that can contribute to accidents like this. Restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations, strip clubs—all of these types of businesses may play a role in a crash like this if they over-serve someone whose intoxication leads to people getting hurt. That said, it’s unclear right now whether or not authorities ever looked into that here. Perhaps more thorough investigations would show there’s more to this story.
