Accident Report

March 2, 2026, a police recruit was injured following an alleged intoxicated driver accident around 12:25 a.m. along Kiest Boulevard.

It appears the crash took place just off the corner of the Kiest Boulevard and I-35E intersection. Authorities say that a police recruit was on a motorcycle traveling home at the time. While traveling, a 19-year-old driver reportedly crashed into the motorcycle. This caused the police recruit to suffer reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities allege that the teen driver was intoxicated and recommended a charge for DWI. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It might stand out to some that the above says it’s “unknown” if alcohol played a role here, yet the driver was charged with a DWI. What’s that about? Well, DWI doesn’t automatically mean alcohol was involved. Drivers can be charged with DWI for being intoxicated due to drugs, as well. This may seem like a distinction without a difference, but there are unique laws depending on what the intoxicant was.

For example, let’s say alcohol did lead to this accident. That would serious questions about where the teen driver got the alcohol from. Were they unlawfully served by a licenses provider? Did that provider over-serve the teen while they were already obviously intoxicated? Is there someone who bought the alcohol for the teen?

That’s a completely different investigation than what would happen if drugs led to the crash. This is why it’s important investigators keep digging beyond just the DWI charge and get the whole story. If there are going to be appropriate consequences here, the investigations can’t begin and end behind the wheel.
