San Antonio, TX — December 17, 2023, Pedro Ramirez III and one other were injured as the result of a car accident before 4:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 281.
Preliminary details about the crash released by authorities say that the crash happened at the U.S. 281 and Redland Road intersection.

According to investigators, 59-year-old Pedro Ramirez III was in a Honda Odyssey that was stopped at the traffic light in the right northbound lane. Police say that an approaching Mazda allegedly going at unsafe speeds crashed into a Cadillac SUV to the left of Ramirez, then veered into the back of Ramirez’s vehicle.
As a result of the collision, Ramirez had injuries described as serious. The Mazda driver apparently had moderate injuries. That other driver who crashed into Ramirez and the Cadillac was accused of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. However, charges and citations remain unconfirmed at this time.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Generally speaking, people expect to see drunk driving wrecks late at night or early in the morning when people are out at bars. Drunk driving is a lot more common during those hours, but it can happen at just about any time of day. Of the hundreds of personal injury cases our firm has handled against alcohol providers, there have been all kinds of businesses at all times of day willing to break the law and put lives at risk.
Sports bars showing the game, movie theaters with full bars, stadiums, brunch spots with bottomless mimosas, gas stations, and even grocery stores can over-serve drunk drivers at just about all waking hours of the day, with few exceptions. That’s why my hope is authorities are being at least as thorough as they would be looking for negligent bartenders after a 2:00 a.m. crash where it’s more obvious a bar could be involved. It’s easy enough to say that a drunk driver should face consequences for their actions. But if that’s as far as the investigations go, others who broke the law and got people hurt could slip under the radar.
