So far there isn’t a lot of clear information about what happened here. That could mean investigators are playing things close to the vest until they know more, or it could mean they’re not quite sure what they’re looking at. Either way, until more facts are available it’s likely unwise to jump to any conclusions.
Some may not think anyone would try to put the puzzle together with so few pieces, but I’ve learned over the years that people have a tendency to blame auto-pedestrian accidents mostly on the person who was on foot at the time. Far from every such accident is actually the pedestrian’s fault, though, and with that in mind it’s important to learn all the details of what happened in Las Vegas: Was the pedestrian crossing the road, walking along it, or simply standing nearby? What’s visibility like in that area? Are there clear lines of sight and adequate lighting if needed? What were weather and road conditions? Where were both parties coming from before they collided? Were both parties paying attention to their surroundings? If not, why not?
That’s just a a quick handful of the many questions that still need clear answers to be sure the crash is properly understood. The point isn’t to overcomplicate things, but to clarify them. Without considering all the possibilities it might be too easy for important facts to go unnoticed and wrong conclusions to be reached. The victim’s loved ones deserve to know they have the whole story, even if all it brings them is some closure. Will police make the effort to deliver that for them?
