Altoona, PA — March 15, 2023, one person was injured as the result of an accident where a truck hit him along 5th Avenue.
Authorities said that the incident happened at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 7th Street. It appears a truck was backing up at the time when it somehow hit a 69-year-old man that was in a crosswalk. Due to this, the man sustained serious injuries. Police did not give any additional details.

From images of the intersection I can find, these are pretty narrow streets where there likely would be much room for a truck to maneuver. But it’s also an area clearly surrounded by residences. Where else would a professional driver expect to encounter pedestrians? As such, they would generally have a responsibility to be extra cautious as they moved through the area. Maybe something happened in a way the truck driver couldn’t reasonably avoid the collision, but hitting someone in a crosswalk rarely happens without the driver involved having made a serious mistake.
