El Paso, TX — November 16, 2024, two female pedestrians were struck by two vehicles, one of which fled the scene, on Interstate 10 in El Paso.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on I-10 West near Missouri Avenue. Preliminary investigation suggests the victims crossed northward through the highway, and were on an exit ramp when a passing vehicle hit them. Soon after, a second vehicle struck one of the women and dragged her to a parking lot on Missouri Avenue. After stopping briefly, the second vehicle left the scene.

Both pedestrians were fatally injured in the accident. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek more information about the hit-and-run vehicle, believed to be a silver minivan, and its driver, described as a Hispanic man with a white beard.
No further information is currently available.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It seems authorities have their work cut out for them after this accident. Not only do they need to investigate the circumstances of the first crash to learn whether it could have been prevented (and if so, why it happened anyway), but they also have to track down the second vehicle that left the scene.
It’s a terrible shame any time someone dies in an accident, but on top of that it’s incredibly frustrating when the person who hurt them runs away. There’s no good excuse for that, and I think most would agree the runaway driver should face serious consequences. Moreover, investigators should find out why they left.
Some may not see why that’s important as long as the driver is caught and charged, but their motive for fleeing could make quite a bit of difference. If they just panicked in a tense moment that might be one thing, but it’d be another entirely if they wanted to hide something else like drugs, active warrants, or drunk driving.
Before the driver’s motives can be learned, though, first they must be located. I hope diligent police work will reveal more details about the hit-and-run vehicle in the near future, and that any new details will be shared with the public as soon as possible. As long as investigators and the public cooperate, I’m hopeful justice will be done—and that a full investigation will get badly-needed answers for those women’s families.
