Hopefully authorities have more information behind the scenes than they’ve released publicly. A lot of the time, giving details to the public is one of the best things investigators can do after a hit-and-run. Someone is often able to connect the dots and come forward to ID the person. However, there are times where accidents like this aren’t taken seriously, and they end up being left behind as authorities move on to other responsibilities.
That’s why it’s sometimes necessary for there to be independent investigations to resolve hit-and-runs. I’ve had cases where weeks or even months had passed, and there was still evidence that helped identify a runaway driver that authorities never bothered following up on. Maybe that isn’t what happened here, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time.
