How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s not uncommon for people to consider pedestrian-involved accidents in black and white: either the pedestrian was at fault for the accident, or they had been in a crosswalk. That’s not necessarily the case, though. What investigators should be focusing on is whether the auto-pedestrian collision was avoidable or not.
Hopefully the investigators will be able to turn up the evidence necessary to prove if the driver of the vehicle had the ability to see and avoid the pedestrian rather than striking him. That will take a certain amount of meticulous work; hopefully the authorities are up to the challenge. If their work seems less than thorough, though, then a third party investigation can always take a look at things, as well. That way all the bases are covered.
After all, the people left behind by the victim deserve more than just vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation.
