Authorities allege the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. If that’s true, was the driver coming from a local bar or some similar establishment? Something that too often goes overlooked is that these accidents can involve alcohol providers who illegally over-served the intoxicated driver, and they, too, can be responsible. Whether it’s through criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, or liability for the resulting injuries, alcohol providers can also be brought to account for their role in a serious accident.

The reason this often slips through the cracks, though, is that authorities don’t often see it as a high priority. They simply put all of their focus on the intoxicated drivers and move on. Meanwhile, not only could there be an accomplice yet to face any kind of consequences, but there could be a negligent alcohol provider continuing to put the community at risk because no one bothered holding them accountable. Could that be happening here, or have authorities been more thorough?
