Anytime alcohol comes up following investigations, people take that to mean that things are open-and-shut. But finding out if a driver was intoxicated is often only part of the larger story. It’s also important to know where the alcohol came from and whether or not a negligent alcohol provider unlawfully over-served the driver.
In Texas, alcohol providers, such as bars or restaurants, can be responsible if they over-serve someone, and their intoxication leads to people getting hurt. This provides potential avenues to victims and families to see the alcohol providers held accountable, and it also helps to ensure those establishments clean up their act before more people get hurt.
If authorities haven’t looked into that possibility, though, they could be missing crucial details. If alcohol was a factor here, it may all come down to one person’s negligent decision to get behind the wheel after drinking. But if there’s an accomplice to all of this, they, too, need to answer for their actions.
