While details aren’t confirmed, authorities mentioned investigating alcohol as a contributing factor in the accident. It’s not for me to confirm or deny that, but it can make pedestrian accidents like this incredibly complex. For example, I had a case not long ago where a family wanted to know what happened to their loved one who somehow walked onto a freeway where a car hit and killed him. What we found was a complex series of events authorities completely overlooked.

Essentially, the man had been out drinking with friends, and the establishment they were at proceeded to illegally over-serve the man. Despite the fact his eventual intoxication was a clear danger to him, the provider kept pouring drinks. The man responsibly chose not to drive home, but this unfortunately led to him wandering off the walkway, onto an exit ramp, and into the path of traffic. As a result, that alcohol provider was responsible for breaking the law and contributing to the man’s death.

What people pretty much wrote off as someone just being irresponsible turned out to be a complex legal situation that required significant effort beyond what police ever touched on. It’s possible nothing like that led to this accident, of course, but it’s something to keep in mind following any fatal accident. There could be a lot more to the story than preliminary details suggest.
