Police didn’t release much in the way of details about this incident, which typically means they’re still trying to work out exactly what happened. As always, in the absence of facts and evidence I advise against too much speculation. Questions of visibility and lighting, road and traffic conditions, where the pedestrian came from prior to being in the road, how long they were there before the car passed through, whether both the victim and the driver were paying attention to their surroundings, and many other important details still need answers.

I know some folks feel that anyone willing to set foot on a busy roadway is prepared to take their life into their hands, but it’s never right to hand-wave something like this away. A person lost their life here, and for the sake of those who lost someone it’s important to figure out exactly why that occurred. Maybe a careful investigation will uncover a simple explanation, but it’s best to find the whole truth for the people who need and deserve it. Will police give this matter that kind of attention?
