Accident Report

February 13, 2026, a woman sustained injuries as the result of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at 9:22 p.m. on East Houston Street.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the collision happened off the corner of the East Houston Street and Palmetto Avenue intersection.

It appears that a 55-year-old woman was on foot at the time. While in the area of eastbound Houston Street, a Dodge Caravan struck the woman. Due to this, the woman was seriously injured.

Authorities said driver inattention was a factor in the crash. No other details are available.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When authorities say driver inattention was a factor in the crash, that immediately suggests the driver was probably on their phone. These days, it’s the first thing I look into in any serious car accident case. Cellphone use is just too common to ignore.

However, it’s important to actually dig into what happened and preserve evidence. For one, authorities might have got the facts wrong. Maybe the driver wasn’t distracted but rather intoxicated. Maybe they were reaching for something in the vehicle. They might have been looking at their map or doing their make-up.

This all might seem incidental, so distraction is distraction. In my experience though, insurance companies look for any gap in the information possible to help ensure they can avoid responsibility. As such, victims having as much evidence telling their side of the story as possible helps ensure the best outcomes. That’s why I hope this accident isn’t automatically written off as open-and-shut before there’s been a proper investigation.
