Sabine County, TX — February 19, 2024, Patricia Ritter was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle truck accident at about 8:00 a.m. along U.S. 96.
According to authorities, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, a Dodge Caravan van, and a Ford F-250 towing a trailer were disabled on U.S. 96 blocking the lanes of traffic due to a previous crash in the vicinity north of S.S. 414 when the accident took place.

Visibility in the area was reportedly low at the time due to a certain amount of smoke in the air. Officials indicate that a northbound Peterbilt 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow collided with the Ford F-150. The F-150 was pushed, due to that collision, into the Dodge van, which was then pushed into the F-250 in a chain reaction of wrecks. The Peterbilt continued its northward trajectory, colliding with a southbound Peterbilt 18-wheeler which had managed come to a stop without crashing into any of the other vehicles.
80-year-old Patricia Ritter, who had been a passenger in the Dodge Caravan, incurred reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the accident. The other two occupants of the Dodge Caravan—a 64-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman—sustained apparently moderate injuries. They were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
