Right now, authorities suggest alcohol may have played a role in the crash. If that’s true, then that might result in serious charges for whoever was intoxicated. But things don’t often end there like people may think—at least not when investigations are handled properly. That’s because a lot of crashes like the one described here involve someone illegally over-served by a bar, and that bar may be responsible for contributing to the victims’ injuries.

Simply put, it’s illegal in Texas for alcohol providers to serve someone who’s obviously intoxicated. Doing so exposes those establishments to potential criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability for the resulting injuries. Many times, though, those establishments get off scot-free. It’s not the sort of thing authorities tend to prioritize, which is why drivers often see charges while the victims and their loved ones are left to pick up the pieces on their own. When there are investigations into those alcohol providers, though, it opens up an avenue for them to possibly get the help they need and to see a wrongdoer held accountable for their actions.

So while I can’t say what all happened here, there are more than enough red flags to take this crash as seriously as possible. I’d need to see a lot more information to believe authorities didn’t let anything important slip through the cracks. There could still be a lot more to this story.
