Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Frankly, fatigue is a common factor in crashes like this. So are things like speeding, distracted driving, and alcohol. But it’s mistake to ignore other possibilities just because they may be unlikely. For all we know, the driver had no way of avoiding this crash. Did authorities examine the road conditions? Did they check for possible mechanical defects? Was there evidence on scene to suggest this could have been a hit-and-run? Is there sufficient lighting and signage at the intersection?

Again, it’s not about what’s common or not. It’s about ensuring the victim’s loved ones are getting the whole story. Based on these initial statement alone, there could be a lot more to know about what went wrong here.
