Amarillo, TX — June 2, 2026, Oran Agee was injured in a truck accident at about 1:50 p.m. on East Amarillo Boulevard/U.S. Route 66.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2005 Toyota Tundra was heading east near Beth Street when it crashed into the back of a 2012 Kenworth semi-truck.

Toyota driver Oran Agee, 30, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

The truck driver was listed as possibly injured, the report states.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Potter County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this time why the Toyota crashed into the rear of a semi-truck. Was the truck moving or stopped at the time of the crash? Was the pickup driver distracted, perhaps by a cell phone? Did the pickup have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? I don’t know the answers from reading the information in the initial crash report, so the answers will have to come from the investigation.

Authorities likely will work to reconstruct this accident by going over physical evidence, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage, while cell phone records could offer an indication of what each driver was doing before the crash.

If investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this accident, a qualified expert should examine these vehicles in a laboratory setting. Most law enforcement agencies do not have the training for such inspections, in my experience, but investigators should do whatever it takes to provide answers about this crash for the injured driver and his family.
