The pedestrian, a 25-year-old man whose name has not been made public yet, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Authorities haven’t put out much information about this crash yet, so it’s important to coax out more details over the course of the investigation.

We need to know if the pedestrian was crossing the road or walking beside it at the time of the crash. And if the truck driver was distracted, perhaps by a cell phone, or fatigued after a prolonged period of time behind the wheel. And if there was sufficient light on U.S. 271 for the trucker to see someone in the road. That means looking at street lighting and the truck’s headlights.

Investigators should review evidence from the scene, data from the truck’s engine control module and any available dashcam footage to piece together what happened here. The truck driver’s logs will have information about how long he’d been driving before the crash.
