How Did This Accident Occur?

It’s not clear at this point what caused this crash. Was the truck driver distracted? Did the truck swerve to avoid another vehicle? Did the truck have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism? Did one of the other vehicles stop unexpectedly? These questions aren’t answered in initial reporting on this crash, so it is up to authorities to address these questions in their investigation.

Physical evidence, witness statements, vehicle data and any available video footage could yield clues to help reconstruct this crash, while cell phone records could show what each driver was doing at the time.

If investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, they’ll likely need an outside expert to examine the vehicles since most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.

A full investigation should provide those affected by this crash with a clear picture of what happened on Gulf Freeway.
