How Did This Accident Occur?
Given the time of this accident, it’s natural to wonder if the driver was distracted, fatigued or even impaired at the time of the crash. But investigations also must consider other possibilities. Did another vehicle force the Buick into the barrier? Did the car have an issue with its brakes or steering mechanism?
Investigators should unearth the truth about this crash by poring over witness statements, physical evidence, data from the vehicle and any available video footage. Cell phone records could show what the driver was doing at the time of the crash, but authorities likely will have to rely on an outside expert to examine the vehicle if they suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this accident.
Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience, but the driver’s famiy deserves to know as much as possible about what happened on I-35E.
