Accident Report

Garland, TX — May 16, 2026, a woman was injured in a single-vehicle accident just before 3 a.m. in the 4600 block of West Walnut Street.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2012 Honda Civic was heading east when it crashed into a light pole near Las Brisas Drive.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman whose name has not been made public yet, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Dallas County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When a single car crashes at this time of the morning, it’s natural to assume that fatigue or even impairment played a role. But more than 30 years of accident investigations has taught that assumptions are no substitute for facts when it comes to figuring out how a crash unfolded. A full investigation should yield the facts needed to provide a clear picture of what happened on Walnut Street.

Authorities likely will work to reconstruct this accident by reviewing physical evidence, witness statements, data from the Honda’s engine control module and any available video footage. Cell phone records may show what the driver was doing at the time of the crash.

If authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this crash, an outside expert likely will be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the Honda because most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for more than a cursory inspection, in my experience.

This kind of investigation should provide answers to any lingering questions the injured driver and her family may have about this crash.
