Accident Report
March 13, 2026, two officers were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident around 10:20 p.m. along Southeast Military Drive.
According to officials, the accident took place at the intersection of Southeast Military Drive and Mission Road. It appears that two San Antonio Police Department officers were in a vehicle going eastbound on Military. A Mission Road, a westbound Chevy somehow collided with the officers.
Due to the collision, the two officers reportedly had non-life-threatening injuries. The Chevy driver allegedly had alcohol in their vehicle and was accused of being intoxicated at the time of the crash. Additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities clearly believe this all was due to alcohol. That may sound open-and-shut, but even arresting an alleged drunk driver doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the end of the story.
I recall a case I had a while back where an officer was seriously injured due to a drunk driver accident. His workers’ comp was essentially refusing to continue paying for necessary care because they determined he was “as good as he was going to get.” Fortunately, he was able to get help beyond that.
The drunk driver had been unlawfully over-served by a bar, which was then responsible for contributing to the crash under Texas dram shop law. What others had written off as a dead-end actually ended up being a path to getting that officer and his family the help they needed.
I can’t say what all lies ahead here, but it’s important that people don’t just assume there’s some automatic process in place for everyone to get the help they deserve. It sometimes takes additional steps to explore further options and pursue an alternate path than the most obvious one.
If anyone can think of a reason why this crash would somehow be the exception to that, share your thoughts.
