UPDATE (February 8, 2024): Reports now say that a driver has been arrested in connection with the death of Officer Darrin McMichael. That person was the alleged runaway driver, who is now said to be facing a charged for accident involving death.
Dallas, TX — September 21, 2023, Officer Darrin McMichael was killed following a hit-and-run accident at around 5:30 a.m. along Interstate 20.
Investigations at this time say the incident took place in the area of St. Augustine Road. The crash reportedly happened as Arlington Police Officer Darrin McMichael was on his way to work in the morning.
According to Dallas County Sheriff’s Office representatives, Officer McMichael was on a motorcycle traveling along the westbound lanes of the interstate. For reasons unclear, a collision occurred between McMichael and another vehicle. This caused McMichael to fall into the road, following which a vehicle described as a dark Dodge or Chrysler SUV ran him over. That vehicle then left the scene, authorities say.
As a result of the collision, Officer McMichael succumbed to fatal injuries. Right now, no further information about the accident is available. Authorities continue to search for the alleged runaway driver.
