With single-vehicle wrecks, it’s important to take all preliminary details with a few grains of salt. Frankly, they’re not often a high priority for the police to investigate. This often results in incomplete reports or officers jumping to conclusions without looking into less common possible factors. Likely or not, a proper accident reconstruction should be able to consider things like mechanical defects, road design flaws, tire blowouts, road hazards, faulty safety devices, etc. It’s possible that something more common led to this crash, but it should be up to the evidence to say one way or the other.
