Some folks may not think there would be more to the story, but the reality is single-vehicle wrecks can be incredibly challenging. It’s important investigators are able to rule out even unlikely possible factors, otherwise they may overlook something crucial.
Take for example the infamous GM ignition switch defect from several years ago. This was an issue drivers had no control over that would suddenly leave them without vehicle power mid-drive. That meant they could be rounding a curve on the highway only to end up without anti-lock braking, power steering, and even airbags. It reportedly killed over a hundred people, yet the public didn’t know about the defect for years. It took independent investigators connecting the dots for the truth to finally come to light.
I’m not trying to suggest that happened here, just to be clear. My point is that folks usually see a single-vehicle wreck and just assume the victim must have done something wrong. Is that possible? Of course, but the evidence needs to speak for itself. If authorities don’t take the steps to get all of the evidence, and if there’s no independent accident reconstructionists around to pick up the slack, it can be difficult for a family to truly feel they’re getting the whole story.
