Houston, TX — October 31, 2024, Nancy Flores and one other person were injured in a car accident shortly before 6:30 a.m. along Old Spanish Trail.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Nancy Flores was traveling in an eastbound Honda Accord on Old Spanish Trail at the Spur 5 intersection when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, as the Honda was attempting a left turn onto Spur 5, a collision took place between it and a westbound Jeep Compass occupied by a 67-year-old woman. The intersection is apparently controlled by a traffic signal. It is unknown, at this point, due to conflicting statements, which vehicle had the right of way at the time of the accident.
Flores sustained reportedly serious injuries over the course of the wreck. She was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. The woman from the Jeep sustained moderate injuries, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When an accident results in significant injuries and conflicting accounts of what occurred, a thorough and impartial investigation is essential to determine what happened and why. In my experience, answering three critical questions is vital to gaining clarity in situations like this.
First, did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? In cases where there is uncertainty about which vehicle had the right of way, it is crucial for investigators to carefully examine the scene. This includes analyzing evidence such as skid marks, damage patterns on the vehicles, and the functioning of the traffic signal at the time of the accident. Eyewitness accounts and any available surveillance or dash camera footage from the intersection can also provide valuable insights into the timing and actions of the vehicles involved.
Second, has anyone considered the possibility of mechanical defects in either vehicle? While driver decisions are often the primary focus, mechanical issues such as brake failures, steering malfunctions, or even signal timing errors can contribute to collisions. A detailed inspection of the Honda Accord and Jeep Compass may reveal whether either vehicle experienced an equipment failure that influenced the drivers’ ability to navigate the intersection safely.
Finally, has all relevant electronic data been collected? Both vehicles likely have event data recorders (EDRs) that store critical information such as speed, braking, and steering inputs leading up to the crash. This data could help clarify whether either driver was speeding, braking appropriately, or attempting evasive maneuvers. If available, traffic camera footage or intersection monitoring systems might also show the sequence of events, particularly which vehicle entered the intersection on a green light.
Accidents involving conflicting accounts and serious injuries demand a meticulous investigation to uncover all contributing factors. By addressing these questions, investigators can work toward a clearer understanding of the events and their causes. A thorough investigation is the least that can be done to ensure every detail is examined. For Nancy Flores and the woman in the Jeep, obtaining these answers is an essential step toward clarity and closure.
