Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

It’s encouraging to see that authorities believe they have the runaway driver in custody. That way, there can be consequences for them leaving the scene. But that may be only part of the larger story. A lot of the time when people leave the scene of an accident, it’s because there’s something specific they want to hide from authorities. Did the driver have warrants? Were they drunk? Were they in possession of something illegal? In my experience, families who lose a loved one don’t just want some bad guy to blame. They want accountability, and that requires knowing the whole story.
