New Madrid County, MO — June 25, 2023, Nakyla Bird and Deaziah Bird were injured following a hit-and-run 18-wheeler accident at 12:30 a.m. on I-55.
According to initial details from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened along northbound lanes of the interstate just south of Kewanee.
Preliminary details show that 21-year-old Nakyla Bird and 22-year-old Deaziah Bird were in a vehicle that was going northbound on the interstate. While doing so, it appears a tractor-trailer somehow hit their vehicle from behind. This forced their vehicle off the side of the road where it then overturned. The tractor-trailer apparently kept going and left the scene.
Due to the accident, both Nakyla Bird and Deaziah Bird sustained apparently moderate injuries. Police say they continue to look for the tractor-trailer involved in the accident. No further details can be confirmed at this time.
