Angelina County, TX — March 15, 2025, a Nacogdoches man and three others were injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at 9:47 p.m. along Highway 7.

Investigators said that the incident took place near Sugar Ridge Drive, north of Spencer Road.

According to officials, a 74-year-old Nacogdoches man and a woman were in a GMC Sierra going northbound on the highway. A Ford F-350 was going southbound when it reportedly failed to yield. As a result, the vehicles collided.

Due to the crash, the Nacogdoches man and his passenger were seriously injured. Two people in the Ford had less serious injuries. Authorities allege that the Ford driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They recommended the driver face charges for intoxication assault.

If it’s true that alcohol led to this accident, then it’s not surprising to see authorities recommend charges. But it’s important victims and families involved in these situations make sure authorities aren’t ending their investigations there. It’s possible there’s an accomplice to all this who also needs to be held responsible: a negligent alcohol provider.

Simply put, it’s unlawful in Texas for an establishment to serve someone who’s obviously intoxicated. If they do so, and that results in people getting hurt, the establishment can be held responsible for their role in the accident. Too often, though, authorities put all of their focus on the drunk drivers that these alcohol providers fly under the radar.

Having handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers, it’s important they face consequences both for accountability’s sake and to ensure they clean up their act before more people get hurt. Are those steps being taken here?
