Authorities said that 34-year-old Mya Nunez was in a Honda Accord going westbound along Blodgett. Police say that the Honda did not slow down approaching a Nissan Rogue slowing to make a right turn, and it crashed into the Nissan. A BMW then crashed into the back of Nunez’s vehicle. Nunez had injuries described as incapacitating while it appears no one else was hurt.

There’s a lot going on here that isn’t really my place to speak on, but something did stand out to me. Police say this was a three-vehicle collision, but only one person appeared to be hurt. Not only that, but they might have been seriously hurt. So why is that?

The reason I ask is because an extreme disparity in injuries between people involved in the same accident can sometimes be a sign of a safety feature—such as a seatbelt or airbag—not functioning the way it’s supposed to. That’s obviously not always true, as circumstances can reasonably lead to one person being hurt more than another without anything particularly unusual happening. But it’s a sign that at least warrants some attention if only to be thorough, and I just haven’t seen any indication right now that authorities looked into anything like that.
