Caddo Parish, LA — March 4, 2025, one person was killed and three others were injured in a truck accident that took place along U.S. Highway 79.
According to authorities, the accident occurred on U.S. 79 in the vicinity of the Woodpine Trail intersection.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a passenger made a turn in the path of an 18-wheeler. The impact pushed the first passenger vehicle into a second, making a total of three separate vehicles involved in the wreck.
The person who had been behind the wheel of the first vehicle reportedly suffered fatal injuries over the course of the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. The two people from the second passenger vehicle—one of which was apparently a child—and the person who had been behind the wheel of the 18-wheeler suffered injuries of unknown severity and were transported to area medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a vehicle turns into the path of an 18-wheeler and sets off a chain reaction crash, the key question isn’t just what happened, but why it happened. In my experience handling truck accident cases, wrecks like this rarely occur without multiple contributing factors that need to be examined.
Why did the turning vehicle enter the truck’s path? Safe driving requires judging the speed and distance of oncoming traffic before making a turn. Did the driver misjudge the truck’s speed? Were they distracted? Did they fail to see the truck at all? Investigators should review witness statements, dashcam footage, and cell phone records to determine whether driver error played a role.
Was the truck driver traveling at a safe speed? Large trucks require more time to slow down, and even a properly executed turn can become dangerous if the truck is moving too fast for conditions. If the 18-wheeler was speeding or failed to anticipate the turn, that could have contributed to the severity of the crash. Investigators should examine black box data, skid marks, and traffic patterns to determine whether speed was a factor.
Was the truck in proper working condition? A mechanical failure, such as faulty brakes or steering issues, could have prevented the driver from slowing down or maneuvering to avoid the collision. Investigators should review maintenance logs, inspection records, and black box data to identify any equipment failures.
Did the trucking company play a role? Trucking companies are responsible for ensuring their drivers follow proper safety procedures. If this driver was fatigued, improperly trained, or operating a poorly maintained truck, that’s something investigators need to uncover. Reviewing company policies, safety records, and prior violations could provide insight into whether broader issues contributed to the crash.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is finding answers. Even if it takes an independent investigation to gather the right evidence, it’s critical to examine every factor to ensure those affected by the crash get the clarity they deserve.
