According to authorities, an 18-year-old man was traveling on an eastbound motorcycle on Green Meadows Road at the Sylvan Drive intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the motorcycle failed to appropriately control its speed. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The teen reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Looking at this accident—a teen driver riding a motorcycle at allegedly unsafe speeds—most people are quick to judge the rider. However, I’ve been doing this job for over three decades. Since I’ve seen plenty of cases that go against the grain of stereotypes, I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. After all, something could have been going wrong with the motorcycle that caused its speed.

To be clear, I’m not trying to say I know something about this accident that others don’t. I’m just pointing out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the motorcycle’s throttle or brakes. Motorcycles, while smaller than passenger cars, are still complex machines. Lots of different systems have to be working in tandem in order for them to remain safe to ride.

Hopefully, investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—are taking the time and putting in the effort necessary to get to the bottom of the actual cause, not just accepting surface level possibilities simply because it’s easy and convenient before moving on.
