Accident Report

January 21, 2026, one person was injured due to a motorcycle accident at approximately 9:45 p.m. on the I-10 frontage road.

According to authorities, a 20-year-old man was traveling on an eastbound Honda motorcycle on the I-10 frontage road approaching the Grand Parkway intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the motorcycle failed to appropriately control its speed. It was consequently involved in a single-vehicle collision. The man reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident.

Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to single-vehicle motorcycle accidents, people are generally quick to blame the outcome on the ubiquitous “reckless driving”. I, however, have had the chance to analyze hundreds of motorcycle accidents over the course of my career. As such, I have cultivated a unique perspective in which I understand that just because something is the most likely cause does not mean that it is the only possible cause.

Bear with me for a moment. Any number of things could have gone wrong in order to lead this motorcycle to be unable to control its speed in the time leading up to the crash. Motorcycles are complex machines; several systems have to work properly and in tandem in order for the motorcycle to function safely. You can let me know in a comment whether or not you agree, but what if something when wrong with one of those systems?

Take the throttle system, for example. The rider twists the throttle, the throttle opens allowing more air and fuel to enter the engine, which produces more power and causes the motorcycle to accelerate. When released, the opposite happens. What if, hypothetically, something went wrong with the throttle system and it somehow got stuck in the open position? Despite the rider not twisting the throttle, the motorcycle would continue to maintain high speeds, or even accelerate.

Hopefully, the people in charge of the investigation took the time and put forth the effort necessary to get a vehicle inspection done on this motorcycle. That way, things like mechanical malfunctions can be either ruled out or brought to light. And, honestly, if the authorities did not do the inspection, perhaps a third party investigator should. The driver, after all, should not be blamed for something that was not their fault.
