Amarillo, TX — July 28, 2024, a man was injured following a motorcycle accident at around 9:45 p.m. along South Washington Street.
According to officials, the incident took place off the cortner of South Washington Street and the Interstate 40 eastbound service road.

Investigators said that a 25-year-old man was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going southbound on Washington. After crossing the service road, it appears a Buick SUV crossed southbound lanes pulling out of a parking lot. The motorcyclist swerved to avoid the SUV, causing it to crash into a light pole off-road. The rider was seriously injured as a result.
Right now, no further information can be confirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to motorcycle wrecks, there’s always a concern it may not be getting the attention it deserves. Too often, authorities biased against motorcyclists, and it can cause them to be more charitable to the other drivers involved whose actions may have actually been the cause of the crash.
For example, I’ve seen plenty of situations like this where someone crosses into the path of an approaching motorcyclist. It’s not at all unusual for authorities to blame the motorcyclist for speeding rather than blaming a driver who failed to yield and entered the rider’s path. It is possible for that to be true, depending on circumstances. But when investigators make this conclusion without actually considering the evidence, it inevitably leads to a rider taking the blame for something that wasn’t really their fault.
Maybe authorities have been more thorough in their investigations here, but that’s frankly not something I would ever take for granted.
