Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I certainly can’t say one way or the other what went wrong here without seeing clear evidence. However, I do wonder if the crash has been investigated fairly and without bias. Frankly, motorcycle wrecks carry a lot of baggage since most people are automatically biased against riders. Despite the fact many are safe drivers, people tend to just assume all motorcyclists are reckless. Obviously, some are—just as some drivers of larger vehicles are. The concern is that authorities sometimes share in this bias, and they, too, may jump to conclusions instead of letting the evidence speak for itself. Did that happen here, or were investigators able to set aside their bias to let the facts do the talking?
