Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When people hear about crashes like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.

In this incident, the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. It is essential to determine what caused the initial blowout that led to the first 18-wheeler overturning. Was it a result of inadequate tire maintenance, a manufacturing defect, or something on the roadway? Understanding the root cause of the tire blowout is crucial for piecing together the events leading to this accident.

The situation became even more complex when a second 18-wheeler collided with the overturned truck. Investigators will need to consider whether the second truck driver had sufficient time and distance to react to the sudden obstacle in the roadway. Factors such as driver fatigue, speed, and visibility at the time of the accident must be carefully examined to understand the sequence of events.

One critical aspect of this accident is the role of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols. The investigation must scrutinize whether the trucking companies involved had proper maintenance schedules and if the trucks underwent regular inspections. Any lapses in this area could indicate negligence on the part of the companies or drivers, contributing to the severity of the incident.

Additionally, the trucking companies responsible for the vehicles involved may share in the responsibility for the wreck. If they failed to enforce safety protocols, properly train their drivers, or ensure that their vehicles were in good working order, they could be held accountable for their role in the crash. Trucking companies are expected to uphold high standards of safety and maintenance, and any lapses can have devastating consequences.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
