Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this occur, it’s easy to think they result from a simple malfunction or bad timing. However, based on my experience, incidents involving commercial vehicles often involve deeper, more complex issues that require thorough investigation.

In cases where tire blowouts are suspected, it’s crucial to examine the maintenance records and safety practices of the vehicle involved. Tire blowouts don’t just happen—they can often be traced back to factors such as inadequate maintenance, improper tire pressure, or the use of worn or defective tires. Investigating whether the tire that failed was inspected and maintained according to industry standards is essential in determining the underlying cause of the incident.

If a commercial company operated the bus, it’s also vital to scrutinize the company’s role in ensuring vehicle safety. Companies are responsible for more than just providing transportation; they must maintain their vehicles to the highest safety standards. This includes regular inspections, proper tire care, and making sure that all safety protocols are followed. Any lapse in these areas could point to the company’s shared responsibility for the incident.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
