London, KY — January 10, 2024, Michael and Shirley Powers were killed in a truck accident shortly after 5:00 a.m. along Interstate 75.
According to authorities, Michael Powers—age 88—and Shirley Powers—age86—were traveling in a southbound Chevy Equinox at the W Hal Rogers Parkway exit when the accident occurred.
An 18-wheeler reportedly was reportedly at a stop on the offramp due to traffic conditions. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the Equinox collided with the rear-end of the 18-wheeler. Michael Powers incurred fatal injuries during the accident and was declared deceased at the scene. Shirley Powers reportedly sustained critical injuries and was flown to an area hospital in order to receive immediate treatment. However, she was ultimately unable to overcome her injuries, having been declared deceased at the hospital on January 12, 2024. No other injuries were reported.
